Certification-oriented Tools & Solutions

Promotion of certification-oriented efforts

The Certification Together initiative aims to facilitate understanding of Certification challenges by different stakeholders, and promote efforts performed with or without the contribution of our network of experts. For example, Solution providers can make efforts to integrate features in tools, provide additional packages with IP or Tools, train their teams,... in order to facilitate usage of these solutions in "certified" projects.

In this page we promote these kinds of efforts and solutions which introduce an added value by facilitating the project work.

Certification Together experts can also support Solution providers to define and build such packages, and/or provide an independent assessment of existing packages. In the current certification process and organization, this independent assessment does not represent a "qualification" or "certification" of the package, but it will increase the credibility and the added value of the package, and facilitate provider-customer discussions.

IP Blocks

ALTERA makes important efforts to support DO254 users in general. They also released a DO-254 certifiable soft processor: NIOS II_SC. This safety-critical version is provided through their partner Hcell Engineering. The NIOS II_SC package was developed under DO-254 design assurance levels, as well as a safety analysis in accordance with Appendix B of the DO-254 guidelines. Read more about this IP and DO254 activities on the ALTERA website.

BARCO-Silex developed and validated the "BA511" according to the RTCA/DO-254 ED-80 guidelines, then licensed it. The BA511 is a multi-channel ARINC 429 transmitter and receiver core for serial communication in airborne applications. Read more about this DO254 compliant IP on the BARCO website.

Solutions for Project Management

Qualtech’s Integrated Compliance Management System (ICMS) was developed by Level A FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER’s) and is considered to be one of the fastest, easiest and most cost effective ways to develop Software and Airborne Electronic Hardware in compliance with RTCA DO-178B, DO-278 and DO-254.

The ICMS integration starts by creating a fully compliant framework within the organization. Once key members of the organization are trained, the detailed templates, establishing a compliant core process, are tailored to reflect the project-specific processes and those processes that have already been established within the organization. Then the ICMS web-based compliance management tools are integrated into the organization and used to develop, store and manage all of the objective evidence of compliance. Once the Web-based tools are in place, all of the objective evidence of compliance is available in a single interface, making it simple to retrieve. Read more about ICMS on the Qualtech website.
